Sports and Nutrition For All: Weight Management

For children , adolescents, adults & seniors

For children and adolescents

Overview

Sports and nutrition are the foundations of lifelong balance and good hygiene, which are especially important given the current prevalence of childhood obesity. According to the European Commission, a quarter of schoolchildren in the EU are overweight or obese, and that figure is expected to increase.

Obese children face a long-term increased risk of serious diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Obesity can also prompt academic difficulties, poor self-image, and psychological distress. Regular physical activity is essential for weight loss in overweight and obese children, and parents play a fundamental role in their children’s learning about nutritional benchmarks and rules for a balanced, healthy life.

Benefits

The program includes a first family visit with a nutritionist in Althalia’s network to assess the family’s nutritional habits, lifestyle, and routines, as well as the child’s academic status. This consultation aims to establish a plan of action for the child and his or her family toward possible modifications of habits and behaviors. It also includes sessions with a coach in Althalia’s network, with the goal of identifying the child’s desire to engage in sports, which sports he or she would like to practice and which are accessible, and sports associations near the family’s home that offer opportunities to practice the sport.

For adults

Overview

Adult nutritional needs vary depending on several factors: gender, age, built, daily physical activity, and existence of health problems, if any. Lifestyle and professional context also heavily influence adult stress levels and do not always allow individuals to adopt a healthy diet or engage in regular physical activity.

The Sports and Nutrition program for adults is designed to help you to combat sedentary lifestyles and dietary habits that might be the cause of overweight or obesity. It will help you to adopt a healthier lifestyle that takes your family and professional requirements into account.

Benefits

The program includes visits with a nutritionist in Althalia’s network to assess your nutritional habits and lifestyle and to propose solutions to enhance lifestyle health, improve eating habits, and foster the habit of doing a sport compatible with personal limitations (e.g., pace of life, personal objectives, professional commitments). It also includes sessions with a coach in Althalia’s network to motivate you to practice a sport, plan sports activities, and make you self-sufficient in the pursuit of your goals.

For seniors (55 or older)

Overview

With the increase in average life expectancy, increasingly more people wish to start or continue a sport activity to stay healthy and maintain their health, independence, and well-being for as long as possible.

Aging affects a person’s psychomotor abilities at the neurological and cardiopulmonary levels, as well as his or her bone and joint functions. Certain kinds of sports may be unadvisable for persons aged 55 or older. Furthermore, sports-related motivations and objectives differ depending on the age of the individual.

The Sports and Nutrition program for seniors caters to members aged 55 or older. It allows you to define a specific sports program corresponding to your motivations, your availability, and your condition. Doctors and coaches of this module are trained in aging-related sports activities.
